The next international G7 summit will take place in Taormina on May 26 and 27, 2017. The official security restrictions and red area were not published now but it seems certain that Taormina's old town center will be closed for touristic visits during the two days of the meeting. The hotels will also be reseved for the delegations and their staff and the accomodations in town will be restricted for tourists. The security measures could be extended also some days before the G7 summit. It's important, for those who are organizing a visit in eastern Sicily in May 2017 to consider these information in their programs.
There's a meteo alert in Sicily for heavy bad weather and rain on January 22. The map below shows the thunderstorm forecast. Movinb by car could be difficult. Some monuments will be closed on March 22 (e.g. Ursino castle in Catania). If you are planning to visit monuments in eastern Sicily it's suggested to check opening conditions.
